Girls basketball: Tampa Bay Area Report — Jan. 8, 2023

The second half of the season starts tonight with three quality matchups to watch, including a pair with bragging rights on the line in Pasco and Pinellas County. Also check out tonight’s schedules in each area county.

What to watch tonight

North Tampa Christian (8-1) at River Ridge (8-3), 6:30

A matchup between the top two teams in Pasco County. The Titans are coming off a four-point loss to Tampa Catholic that snapped their eight-game win streak to start the season. The host Royal Knights, meanwhile, have plenty of momentum after winning their own tournament this past weekend.

St. Petersburg (5-5) at Seminole (6-9), 7

This is a rematch from the Keswick Suncoast Classic. The host Warhawks beat the Green Devils for the first time in six years to clinch fourth place at the tournament.

Gibbs (7-4) at Lakewood (8-3), 8

One of Pinellas County’s best rivalries renews with potential playoff positions at stake. Both teams were ranked as the top two in Class 4A, Region 3 (the Spartans at No. 1 and the Gladiators at No. 2) when the Florida High School Athletic Association’s initial power rankings were released last week.
