Hernando, Pasco counties cancel today’s athletic activities
Due to potential severe weather, Hernando and Pasco County administrators decided to cancel today’s athletic events. Pasco public schools are closed today and Hernando public schools were on an early release schedule. Hillsborough and Pinellas County schools remain open and athletic events still are on schedule.

Former Steinbrenner standouts win FCS National Title
Two Steinbrenner graduates, Matthew Durrance and Kirby Vorhees, helped South Dakota win the FBS (Div. I-AA) National Title.
Durrance, a sophomore, had three tackles in the 20-3 championship game win over Montana. He also dynamo on special teams with a punt return for a touchdown against Villanova in the playoffs.
Touching moment
After the national championship game ended, Washington’s Michael Penix Jr., a former Tampa Bay Tech standout, was walking off the field when he was embraced by Michigan’s Jaylen Harrell, who starred at Berkeley Prep.
