The final week of the regular season means conference championship games. There are three contests involving area teams. Here is a preview for each one.
Tonight
Gulf Coast 8 Conference championship
Springstead (19-3) at Lecanto (16-5), 7
This is the third meeting between the teams. The host Panthers won the first two matchups, each by three points (41-38 and 53-50 in overtime). Since the last loss in December, the Eagles have gone to set a school record with 15 straight wins. Each of those wins during the current streak has been by double digits. The Panthers also have momentum with five straight wins, all by 15 or more points, entering tonight’s contest.

Pinellas County Athletic Conference championship
Clearwater (13-5) at Lakewood (16-4), 7:30
A matchup between two of the county’s traditional powerhouses. This also is a rematch from a game the host Spartans won 70-51 in December. Lakewood is playing its best basketball at the right time. The Spartans have won 10 of their last 11 games, the lone loss coming by four points to Sarasota Cardinal Mooney during that stretch. The Tornadoes, meanwhile, have rebounded from some mid-season struggles to win five of their last six games.

In the conference semifinals, Bloomingdale overcame a 28-27 halftime deficit to get past Sickles, 52-49. After losing three straight games late last month, the Panthers put together two solid wins, the latest coming against Wharton (76-51) in the conference semifinals.
